2.0 vs 2.1 Channel Amplifiers
What is a channel?
Each channel drives a separate speaker output. A 2.0 amplifier powers a left and right speaker pair. A 2.1 amplifier adds a dedicated subwoofer output while still driving the left and right channels.
Choose 2.0 for clean stereo
- Bookshelf speakers and compact desks
- TV audio where the speakers already produce enough low end
- Simpler wiring and setup
Choose 2.1 for stronger low end
- Movies and games that benefit from sub-bass
- Passive speakers plus a powered or passive subwoofer
- Music styles that need deeper low-frequency control
